Eagle Aid 2006 Scheme
For the third year running, Charles Wells Ltd has announced that a ‘community chest’ has been made available for local charitable causes. The distribution of funds has changed from previous years, however, with the sum of £15,000 being targeted at those charities directly affecting community life more closely than ever before.
“We have an estate of over 250 pubs” explained Vice Chairman, Tom Wells, “and they are positioned in the heart of their community. Whether they are in a rural village or town centre, their immediate neighbours come to rely on the pub as the focal point for their community and one of the first places many turn to when they need help. We have therefore taken the decision that the pubs should determine where our Eagle Aid donations are allocated in 2006.”
All licensees within the Charles Wells pub estate have been invited to apply for funding for a charitable cause that they and their customers would like to support. It may be one with whom they already have an association or one that affects the lives of the regulars – it's their decision. Every pub that responds will receive a share of the community chest for their charity and will also receive a fundraising pack encouraging them to raise further donations amongst themselves. “Effectively we are helping customers of our pubs to help the less fortunate in their own communities” continued Tom Wells. “Eagle Aid 2006 will provide assistance but it will also act as the catalyst for further fundraising and we hope that our revised scheme makes an even greater impact than it has in previous years as a result.”
“We understand that some charities may feel excluded by this decision, but it has always been our intention to encourage community involvement. Our pubs are a logical way to fulfil this principle and we hope that, far from excluding them, it may encourage local charities to work with the pubs and their local communities on an ongoing basis” concluded Wells.
