Bedford River Clean

Wells Eagle IPA continues its support to the community by initiating a Bedford River Clean!

At the start of a year that heralds the staging of the popular Bedford River Festival, employees of Bedford brewer and pub operator, Charles Wells Ltd donned their wellies in a bid to clean up one section of the River Great Ouse.

Sponsored by the companys flagship Bedford brand, Wells Eagle IPA, staff cleaned a section of river bank from Queens Bridge, near The Eagle Brewery, to County Bridge under the supervision of Bedfordshire Council on Saturday 7th January 2006.

Managing Director, Paul Wells, led the volunteers on the river bank and explained We are a keen supporter of local community events and have sponsored the River Festival for a number of years. This year we decided to extend our commitment by pledging to help maintain the river, which is important to the whole community within Bedford. Im thrilled that so many of our staff volunteered to give up their Saturday morning to help with the clean up and appreciate the help, advice and safety guidance provided by the River Care team at Bedfordshire Council.

The river clean up marked the start of a busy year of local activities being supported by Wells Eagle IPA, either through community events or promotions being organised through the companys own pub estate.

The Wells Eagle volunteers met at The Eagle Brewery for bacon sandwiches, before being briefed on the river bank by the Council River Care team and setting out on their task. Over 30 bags of waste were collected including empty soft drinks bottles, discarded cigarette packets and even items of old clothing.
